Sheffield’s Meadowhall Shopping Centre will be inviting shoppers to ‘Sew It Better’ on 13 and 14 July in aid of their charity of the year, The Children’s Hospital Charity.
The pop up sewing workshop will be run by the Sheffield based sewing school, Sew in the City, and is one of a series of pop up shops the shopping centre will be hosting over the summer. The team will host 30 minute sewing workshops every half an hour between 10am and 5pm, working with up to 20 participants per session to design their own customized Children’s Hospital Charity, ‘Make It Better’ lapel badge.
Yorkshire Tea are supporting the event, which will ask participants to make a minimum £2 donation to The Children’s Hospital Charity. Modern vintage brand, Cath Kidston, along with arts and crafts superstore, Hobbycraft, will be supplying the materials for the weekends workshops.
The Make It Better appeal will raise much needed funds that will go towards modernizing the hospital, helping children to recuperate quicker by using the best possible equipment in the best possible environment.
Events Manager at Meadowhall Shopping Centre, Alex Caley, said: “At Meadowhall, we’re always on the lookout for the latest trends, and, this year, sewing is top of the trends list thanks to the likes of the BBC series, The Great British Sewing Bee. As part of our Park Life Summer Campaign, we wanted to include a sewing workshop for shoppers, so, for the nimble fingered and novice stitchers alike, please ensure you join in the fun next weekend.”
Sew In The City’s Danielle Downs added: “Sewing has certainly enjoyed a resurgence in the last couple of years and we’re delighted to be bringing our sewing workshops to Meadowhall. You don’t have to be a professional on the sewing machine to get great results; a little understanding can take you a long way. Customizing your own fashion is a great way to create your own unique style, and that’s what we’re wanting to introduce shoppers to this weekend with the Make It Better lapel badge in aid of The Children’s Hospital Charity.”
The Sewing It Better pop up will be located in the Park Life area, on the Lower Arcade near Marks & Spencer. For more information, visit meadowhall.co.uk
