Great Britain's top divers will be vying for their place in the biggest sporting event in the world when they compete in the British Gas Diving Championships in Sheffield next month.

Tickets are now on sale for the event, which will take place at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre from the 8th to the 10th of June.

The Championships are the last chance for the country's divers to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics.

Diving stars confirmed to take part in the event include Tom Daley, Pete Waterfield, Sarah Barrow, Tonia Couch, Chris Mears and Jack Laugher, as well as Sheffield-based divers, Nick Robinson-Baker, Megan Sylvester and Monique Gladding.

Steve Brailey, chief executive of Sheffield International Venues (SIV), which manages Ponds Forge, said: "We are hugely excited to be hosting what is set to be a spectacular sporting event and one of the most competitive Olympic qualifiers.

"We would encourage members of the public to come along to witness the likes of Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield in action, as well as our own Sheffield divers.

"The city is continuing to play a key role in the run up to London 2012 and the diving championships will once again place Sheffield and Ponds Forge on an international sporting stage."

Councillor Isobel Bowler, Sheffield City Council's Cabinet member for Culture, Sport and Leisure said: "It's good to see another elite event come to Pond's Forge. Major events like this are bringing £8m into the city and this is another example of putting Sheffield on the sporting map both nationally and internationally.

"It is a major contributor to Sheffield's economy. It also acts as a massive inspiration for people in Sheffield to get active themselves to see such fantastic, elite sports people come to our city."

Tickets for the British Gas Diving Championships are priced at £4 for adults for the preliminary round and £3 for concessions. Tickets are also available for the finals at £5 for adults and £4 for concessions.
