Tourism chiefs from all over Europe were treated to the delights
of Doncaster yesterday at the 'Best of Britain and Ireland Travel
show' at the NEC in Birmingham.
'Doncaster Tourism', the Council's tourism team, exhibited at
the 'Premier UK Travel Trade show' for the second successive year
and were overwhelmed at the positive response to
the borough.
The Doncaster Tourism stand also had members from the Markets
team to promote the historic markets. Toppings Pies and
Doncaster wine from Summerhouse Vineyard were also served to give
trade visitors a real taste of what Doncaster has to
offer.
Colin Joy, Tourism Manager for Doncaster, said: "Once again,
Doncaster proved extremely popular with coach and tour operators
from all over the UK and beyond.
"Enquiries have ranged from our magnificent country houses such
as Cusworth Hall or Brodsworth Hall, to our Roman heritage and
events such as the St Leger. The Vulcan bomber has been a
very popular new addition to Doncaster's growing tourism offer this
year, but we've also had interest in some of the events coming up,
such as the Ashley Jackson and Graham Ibbeson exhibition at
Cusworth opening in October."
Doncaster Tourism launched a new Group Travel Guide at the show,
aimed at showcasing Doncaster's wide variety of attractions
suitable for groups visiting the borough. Last week was also
English Tourism Week, organised by national tourism body Visit
England, aimed at highlighting the importance of tourism to the
national economy.
