Creative arts students from Doncaster College will be taking
part in the Tramlines Festival due to take place in Sheffield this
weekend.
Music and photography learners will be showing off their
respective talents to the vast crowds anticipated at this year's
event. Last year saw 150,000 fans congregate in Sheffield across
the three days of the musical and arts extravaganza.
Doing it for real, that's part of the ethos of many courses at
Doncaster College, and playing live and showing work at Tramlines
will certainly be authentic for our students.
It's a much bigger event than they are used to but as Ian
Latham, Assistant Director for Creative Industries at the College
points out 'At the College we put on vocational courses to prepare
students for the world of work, so creating a realistic working
environment for the learners to work in is essential..…What could
be more realistic than playing live in front of a big audience or
displaying work at a huge event like Tramlines.
Three bands, made up of students from the BTEC National Diploma
in Music, will be performing live at the showcase area near the
Peace Gardens. They are a four piece band, called 'Stav-X' who play
progressive rock interwoven with elements of middle eastern music
and two five-piece bands 'Rocksity' and 'Faultless.' 'Rocksity'
play classic rock and metal and 'Faultless' fuse euphoric rock with
elements of Electronica.
Previously, they have all performed live at venues in and around
Doncaster, including on a boat, for their assessments at
College,
Art students will be getting in on the act as well. There will
be an exhibition of photography produced by the National Diploma
year two students comprising of their end of year show, which
highlights many of their skills and talents. Students Rebecca
Hickman and Rebecca Thompson, who have just finished the course and
are progressing to onto University, have curated this for
Tramlines.
