Rovers have been listening to what fans want pre-match
and saw that there was a call for the Vikettes to be brought
back.
Media Manager Steve Uttley introduced the original Vikettes in
2003, when Rovers returned to the Football League.
Originally started by Sarah Belk, the group was taken over by
Donna Anderson, an original dancer with the group.
Since the start of the season, many fans have asked the club
if they plan on bringing them back, so it was decided to
hold a vote through the Rovers Facebook page and in
association with the Viking Supporters Co-operative.
This was unanimous in its decision to bring them back, so
Media Manager, Steve Uttley, contacted Donna who now runs
the Step-up School of Theatre Dance in Barnby Dun, to see if she
would like to get the Vikettes back up and running for a
game.
Donna said;
"It was a pleasant surprise when Steve contacted me and
said the fans wanted us back.
"We had great times in the past at big games at both
Belle Vue and Keepmoat Stadium, including the opening
game at the new stadium. I have kept in contact
with Steve since we stopped and this invitation has come out
of the blue, but since I got the call we have worked hard
on two new routines."
The new Vikettes, which includes six of the original girls
plus lots of new local dancers, will perform for the
first time at the Brighton game both before and at half
time. Give them a big shout!
