A Doncaster head teacher is on the lookout for football fans
from across Yorkshire to join him in his latest fundraising
mission.
Nathan Atkinson, head teacher at Kingfisher Primary School in
Doncaster, is hoping to get hundreds of fans signed up to take part
in the Ride of Rivals event which will see entrants cycling 55
miles to raise vital funds for the NSPCC.
The event on June 10th, is being organised in partnership with
Doncaster Rovers, and will offer three routes all culminating at
Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium.
Nathan said: "Last year we held a Doncaster Teachers v Celebrity
All Stars event which raised £15,000 for the NSPCC. This year I
wanted to widen the fundraising potential and involve fans from
other clubs.
"The aim is that fans from across the region can join one of the
routes starting at Hull, Bradford or Huddersfield and cycle the 55
mile journey, via other local clubs to Doncaster.
"Basically it doesn't matter which team you support we are
looking for fans of the Millers, Owls, Blades, Mighty Whites and
The Iron to come out and raise money for this life changing
children's charity and showing your support for your team as you
fundraise."
Ride of Rivals is in aid of the NSPCC ChildLine Schools Service
and could be rolled out across the country as a annual fundraising
event.
Liam Scully, head of community for Doncaster Rovers Community
Foundation, said: "This event should be fantastic. Nathan has shown
a real passion for organising these types of event and we are sure
that football fans will join him in this new project.
"Our work with the NSPCC is something that we are very proud of
and we are always looking for new ways to raise funds for them and
to raise awareness of the great work that they do."
